CREATING LEGENDS...TODAY

Sir Wilson Whineray needs little introduction as a true Kiwi all-rounder. After a glittering rugby career this sporting icon went on to play a leading role in boardrooms across the nation; his leadership, drive and intellect contributing greatly to the success of the many organisations he served.

As patron of the Grammar Carlton Rugby Football Club Sir Wilson has ensured that his contribution to New Zealand rugby continues long after he himself left the field.

The Sir Wilson Whineray Scholarship celebrates this contribution and sets a benchmark in sporting and academic excellence for young Kiwis who seek to follow in his footsteps.

Through this scholarship in his name, Grammar Carlton Rugby Football Club seeks to support young rugby players who have the potential to emulate Sir Wilson’s successes both on the rugby field and off it, and who share his ideals and demonstrate his strength of personality.

The Scholarship will support the recipients’ tuition at the University of Auckland while they play for Grammar Carlton, one of this city’s most dynamic and successful rugby clubs.
